WMI verify/reset

Solution

Windows XP   

  1. Open Services.msc
  2. Locate and stop "Windows Management Instrumentation" & "Security Center"
  3. Navigate to: C:\Windows\System32\wbem
  4. Delete or Rename the Repository folder
  5. Reboot the system

 

Windows Vista/7/8/10

 

  1. Open command prompt as administrator
  2. Type: winmgmt /verifyrepository and enter
  3. You will either get one of these results:
    • WMI repository is consistent - proceed to step 6
    • WMI respository is inconsistent - proceed to step 4 
  1. Type: winmgmt /salvagerepository to rebuild the repository 
  2. You will get wither one of these results:
    • WMI repository is consistent - proceed to step 6
    • WMI repository salvage failed - repeat steps 4
    • WMI repository has been salvaged - proceed to step 7 
  1. Type: winmgmt /resetrepository to reset the repository to its initial state
  2. Reboot the system
